There are countless care products for babies: powders, oils, creams, lotions & shampoos – all these and more are available in every conceivable format. But what do you really need? What can you safely do without? And what really matters? Read our blog to find out.
So that your baby feels good all-round, and can grow up happy and healthy, naturally you need the right care. Baby’s skin is very tender and sensitive but if it’s intact, you only need a few baby care products. It’s particularly important to use only products specially developed for baby skin. That’s because baby skin has different needs to adult skin, and it’s around three to five times thinner. In addition, its protective function is not yet fully developed which means that baby skin can dry out faster, and toxins can penetrate easier. That’s why baby care products should be absolutely free of synthetic colours and fragrances. And avoiding mineral oils, parabens and PEG emulsifiers is also recommended.
So follow the principle of less is more! Both the ingredients in the products used, and the number of different products should be reduced to the essentials. In keeping with our philosophy, our fresh skin care for babies and children is vegan, and free of perfumes, colours, mineral oils, silicone, alcohol and synthetic preservatives. Our fresh formulations are optimally designed for sensitive baby skin, dermatologically tested and very well tolerated. We use carefully selected pharmaceutical-grade organic oils.
Giving baby a bath
During the first months of their lives, babies hardly get dirty at all (apart from the nappy area 😉). Initially, demanding baby skin has a natural protective film that shouldn’t be washed off too soon. As a rule, a bath once or twice a week is enough. Bathing has a relaxing effect, so the best time to give baby a bath is just before bed. Before the bath, make sure you have everything you need at your fingertips: a soft wash glove, a snuggly towel, a fresh nappy and FRESH baby body & hair wash or FRESH baby oil. Ensure that the bathwater is the right temperature – around 37°C is recommended. Wash baby with the wash glove, gently work up the FRESH baby body & hair wash on baby’s damp skin into a lather, and then rinse it off. The mild 2-in-1 baby washing care and shampoo soothes the skin and protects the skin barrier. Grooming and lipid-restoring oils protect baby’s skin from drying out. FRESH baby oil can also be used for skin care – just add a few drops to the bathwater. The grooming & massage oil also restores lipids, and its pharmaceutical-grade selected oils ensure velvety-soft skin.

Baby’s first hair? We care!
Some babies come into the world with a mop of hair, with others the hair only appears later. RINGANA FRESH baby body & hair wash is suitable for babies from 0 months and children. The mild 2-in-1 product soothes and grooms the skin, and cleans baby’s first hair with ultra mild tensides. The wash gel can be used from head to toe. The pH-value of the product is oriented to the pH-value of tear fluid, so that it causes as little irritation to the eyes as possible. Nonetheless, do try to ensure that the wash gel doesn’t get into baby’s eyes. Because even pure water in the eyes can be unpleasant. After washing baby’s hair, don’t rub their head dry, but pat it gently. Round off the grooming experience by “combing” with a soft baby brush. That will avoid irritating the scalp, and baby will get a gentle massage.

Baby Bum – the right approach to care!
New parents often ask themselves how often they should change baby’s nappy, particularly during the first few weeks. Usually it doesn’t take long before a routine is established, and parents can tell if they have to deal with a full nappy from baby’s behaviour. Because of contact with urine and faeces, the skin in the nappy area is often under particular pressure. So it’s very important to change baby’s nappy regularly – and straight away, of course, if the nappy’s full. That way you’ll ensure that the skin stays dry, and you’ll avoid the appearance of nappy rash. It will also prevent the formation of bacteria.
For most parents, when grooming and cleaning the nappy area, baby wipes are nearly always considered essential. Unfortunately, these wipes often contain preservatives and fragrances, which you can safely do without when it comes to baby care. As a rule, baby wipes are made of man-made fibres. Also, if they are flushed down the toilet, they can cause environmental problems. In response, RINGANA has developed FRESH baby bum foam. You could say it’s the baby equivalent of our FRESH stay fresh, the genital cleansing foam for adults. No matter whether you’re at home or out and about, FRESH baby bum foam is ideal for thoroughly cleansing when changing baby’s nappy. Bye, bye baby powder!
Feel free to do without baby powder! Powder is actually rather counterproductive when it comes to caring for the nappy area. Why, you ask? Quite simple: because of the moist environment in the nappy, the powder forms into little clumps that can chafe the skin. This can lead to skin irritation. It can also be very dangerous if babies or small children accidentally inhale powder. If it gets into their lungs, this can cause breathing difficulties and lung damage.
The perfect way to end baby’s care ritual
To finish off baby’s care ritual, it’s really important to choose a product that doesn’t only protect the sensitive skin on your baby’s face and body, but also intensively nourishes it.
