Body And Hair Care Routine

Our skin doesn’t end at the neck – which is why an all-over body care routine is so important.

Showering

Whether it’s a refreshing splash to start the day, or a few moments of relaxation to end it, a regular shower is an essential part of our everyday life – but it puts more pressure on the skin barrier than you might think. Particularly if you like to shower very hot or for too long, or if you turn your shower into a foam party. 

What water temperature should I choose for my shower? 

Most people prefer hot water for showering. Ideally, it should be between 35 and 38°C. Those who like it hotter than that won’t be doing their skin any favours. That’s because hot water extracts the necessary lipids from your skin, leaving it dry, irritated and itchy. Those who already suffer from dry skin should be sure to switch to showering in lukewarm water. 

Is showering too often unhealthy? 

How often you should shower per day or week depends on the pattern of your day, your skin type and how you shower. But 2–3 times a week under ideal showering conditions – around 7–10 minutes in water that’s not too hot – can be considered harmless.  

What is the best washing care when taking a shower? 

When you shower, your skin already faces a number of challenges, so you shouldn’t add to that by using unsuitable care products. Shampooing

After gently cleansing your body with FRESH body wash, move on to looking after your hair. 

What is the optimal shampooing rhythm? 

We’ve probably all asked ourselves this question at one time or another, and it’s a hotly disputed topic among many groups of friends. While some want to be gentle on their hair and wash it as little as possible, others swear by a daily shampoo. We always advise people to consider their particular lifestyle and hair type. If you do a lot of sport, or your work is sweaty or dusty, your hair’s needs will be different to those of somebody who might be described as a couch potato, or who has a desk job. 

Hair that gets greasy quickly:

If you suffer from greasy hair, you should avoid frequent washing because when you massage your head while shampooing, this stimulates sebum production. As a result, your hair gets greasy quickly. So, if possible, avoid washing your hair every day. 

Dry hair: 

If you have dry, brittle hair, we recommend that you reduce your hair-washing to 2–3 times a week, and avoid using very hot water. Because, as we’ve already mentioned, hot water removes important and protective skin lipids from our skin and scalp. 

Normal hair:

Is your hair normal? In that case, it’s entirely up to you how often you wash your hair, based on your lifestyle and/or your sense of cleanliness. 

What is the optimal hair care? 

Mild and gentle cleaning is all-important when it comes to hair – irrespective of how often we wash it. That’s why our formulation is specially focused on achieving a gentle yet thoroughly cleansing effect – and all based on the pure strength of nature.

The next important step in your hair care routine is applying a hair balm or, if needed, a hair mask.

As a conditioner:

After washing, massage FRESH hair treatment into wet hair lengths and tips, and work it in carefully with a comb or your fingers. Rinse out – and your hair’s ready for styling. 

As a pre-shampoo mask: 

If you’re using it as a mask, it’s important to apply FRESH hair treatment to the scalp before you shampoo your hair. The mask can be massaged into a dry or slightly damp scalp and, if you wish, applied to hair lengths and tips as well. Leave the FRESH hair treatment mask to work for 10–15 minutes, rinse out, and then wash your hair as usual with FRESH shampoo. 

As a care product in-between times:

Moisturising

Most of us already know that using a body cream on our skin is an essential part of any care routine, but applying moisturiser after a shower can often be forgotten – because we’re short on time, or for other reasons. However, you’ll get the best results from moisturising after a shower or bath. 

Why should I apply moisturiser after a shower or bath? 

When we shower, we expose our skin’s natural protective mantle to some risks. It is constantly knocked off balance by unsuitable washing products, the condition of the water itself, and other factors. As a result, the skin dries out and loses its ability to protect against other everyday challenges.
